2 Jets Breakout Candidates for 2024
July 10, 2024
In the 2023 season, the Jets had a few breakout players like Bruce Huff, Quincy Williams, and Michael Carter but this year there could be some more breakout candidates for 2024, instead of on defense like last year we could see more on offensive players breakout. So, here are 1 defensive and 1 offensive player from which we could see a breakout season in 2024.
The defensive player that could break out is safety Tony Adams. Last year Adams looked like an average to above-average safety in the league but in 2024 he can break the ice and crack into the top 20 and maybe even top 15 safeties in the league. In 2023 Adams had 83 total tackles, 6 tackle for losses, and 3 interceptions for 50 yards. Those stats are a huge jump from his 2022 stats, in 2022 he had 17 tackles, 0 tackles for a loss, and 0 interceptions. His PFF grade in 2023 was 68.0 PFF Grade which is 35th among all safeties. Although Saftey is considered the weakest position for the Jets Tony Adams could help fill that hole with a big year 3.
The offensive player bound to break out is 2nd year Center Joe Tippmann. Last year the Jets selected Joe Tippmann with the 43rd pick to become the next Jets center. In his rookie year, Joe Tippmann won the starting center job over Connor McGovern who was the starting center the 2 seasons before, and since he won the job he has not looked back. Last year Tippmann started 14 games in total, having a 61 PFF Grade and being named PFWA All-Rookie team. During the second half of the season, Joe Tippmann made some big strides, since Week 9 he was the 14th overall ranked center, 5th in run blocking, and 5th in pass blocking all according to PFF. If Joe Tippmann plays like he did in the second half of 2023 he has the chance to be a top 10 center in just his second year.
With the Jets in win-now mode, it would mean a lot for young players like Tony Adams and Joe Tippmann to step up and break out to bring the Jets to their full potential in 2024.Â
