Today on January 8th the New York Jets have added yet another interview request to their already 13 and have completed an interview with 1 candidate.
The Jets have submitted a request to interview Steve Spagnuolo the current Chiefs defensive coordinator.
The 65-year-old has a long coaching history dating back to 1981 when he was a Graduate Assistant at UMass. Spagnuolo had his first gig in the NFL in 1999 when he was hired as defensive assistant with the Eagles, he worked with the Eagles as DB’s coach and linebackers coach until 2006. From that point, he jumped from being the defensive coordinator for the Giants until 2008 before he was hired as the Rams HC from 2009-2011 where he posted a 10-38 record. From that point forward he jumped around serving on the defensive side of the ball until 2019 when he was hired as defensive coordinator for the Chiefs.
As the defensive coordinator for the Cheifs, he has won 3 Super Bowls and put together a couple of great defenses. From 2019-2023 the Chiefs defense were top 10 in both passing and total offense every single year.
The Jets have also completed their interview with Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy who is now the 4th coach the Jets have interviewed and the 1st offensive-minded head coach.
The Jets have now reached out to 14 different coaches as they look for the next head coach of the team.
