After a couple weeks of interviews, the Jets have hired Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to become the teams 22nd head coach.
Glenn might be a familiar name to the Jets organization as he was a cornerback with the team from 1994-2001 and a scout from 2012-2013. Glenn was New York's first round draft pick in 1994 and in his time in New York he was selected to 2 pro-bowls and registered 396 total tackles.
As a coach, Glenn started his career with the Browns as the assistant defensive backs coach in 2014 and 2015. After that he became the defensive back coach with the Saints from 2016-2020 and in 2020 he helped lead the Saints defense to the 5th best passing defense in the NFL.
After those years in New Orleans Glenn continued to move up the ranks and was hired as the Lions defensive coordinator in 2021.
In his first 2 years as DC in 2021 and 2022 Glenn was managing a defense that was bottom 5 in nearly every single defensive category. But in his 3rd year Glenn showed signs of progress, the Lions were a 2nd best rushing defense team but they still struggled elsewhere, being 23rd in points allowed and the 27th ranked passing defense in the league.
His most recent year in 2024 was the best year of his coaching career. Despite having the most injured defense in the league Glenn still put together a top 10 defense. The Lions rushing defense was 5th in the league, 10th in takeaways, 7th in points allowed, 20th in yards allowed, 2nd in passing touchdowns and 5th in interceptions.
The 52 year old will bring in his own coaching staff and the new era of Jets football will be starting soon in 2025.
