Meet the Rookies: Jordan Travis
July 4, 2024
With the 171st the Jets selected Jordan Travis a QB from FSU, Travis has been a dominant QB everywhere he has gone from High School to College and only time will tell if he can continue that into his NFL career when his time comes.
In highschool Jordan Travis played at Palm Beach Central High School for 2 years and played at The Benjamin School for his final 2 years. In Travis’s senior year he passed for 2,190 yards, 24 touchdowns, 7 interceptions with a 119.6 passer rating he showed his dual threat ability as well, rushing for 905 yards and 16 touchdowns. During his High School career Travis was a 2017 FHSAA 3-A Player of the Year and Palm Beach Player of the Year Jordan was a 3 star dual-threat QB who accumulated 13 offers from Schools like Georgia, Louisville, Rutgers and Michigan State. On December 20, 2017 Jordan Travis would commit and sign his letter of intent to play football at Louisville to play under head coach Bobby Petrino.
Jordan Travis would redshirt his freshman year at Louisville only appearing in 3 games and getting less than 20 snaps, but his time at Louisville would be cut short when he announced he would be entering the transfer portal after head coach Bobby Petrino was fired following a 2-10 season. When Jordan entered the transfer portal he would explore his options but ultimately commit to Florida State University on December 18, 2018. In the 2019 season Jordan would have limited playing time just like in 2018, appearing in 4 games and also getting less than 20 snaps. Travis would earn more playing time in 2020 where he appeared in 8 games, passing for 1,056 yards, 6 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. The following season in 2021 Travis would flash what he will become in the future by starting in every game for the Seminoles, passing for 1,539 yards, 15 touchdowns and 6 interceptions as well as rushing for 570 yards and 7 touchdowns.
The next 2 seasons in 2022 and 2023 would be the highlight of his college career, becoming a star in 2022 and a Heisman candidate in 2023. His Junior season in 2022 Travis would pass for 3,214 yards, 24 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, and a 160.1 passer rating, while rushing for 417 yards and 7 touchdowns. In 2023 Jordan Travis true breakout season would happen where he would be the ACC Player of the year, ACC Offensive Player of the year, place 5th in Heisman voting along with being a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien Award, Walter Camp Player of the Year, Jason Witten Man of the Year and, the Maxwell Award. On the field Jordan passed for 20 touchdowns and 2 interceptions for 2,756 yards in 11 games. Unfortunately on November 18th in a game against North Alabama Jordan Travis would suffer a fractured and dislocated ankle as well as stretching some ligaments on his left leg. That injury would be the last he would play in college after 5 years in the NCAA.
Due to the injury Jordan Travis was not able to participate in any combine or pro-day activities but from game film there was promise in his game. During his scouting process Jordan Travis was known for his way to find and hit receivers on the run, rushing ability, accuracy and explosive rushing. His game did have some downside most notably his poor decision making in pressure and his major leg injury he is recovering from.
On Day 3 of the NFL Draft the Jets selected Jordan Travis in the 5th round as a developmental piece and see what he can become, the pick also added to their QB room of Tyrod Taylor and Aaron Rodgers. Now in the developmental stage Travis just needs to sit and learn from 2 great veteran quarterbacks and patiently wait for his time.
