The linebacker position is like most of the defense, complete. Between 2 all-pro starters and some solid depth, the Jets linebacker group is one of the best in the NFL for 2024.

The leader and captain of this defense is linebacker 1 for Gang Green, CJ Mosley. In his 9-year career, CJ Mosely has been a 5x 2nd team All-Pro player and a 5x Pro-Bowler with a total of 1,066 tackles, 12 interceptions, and 10 forced fumbles. In 2023 Mosley was ranked as the best tackler in the NFL, he racked in 152 tackles and 81 solo tackles with 2 forced fumbles and 2 QB hits. CJ Mosley has consistently been on the field for the Jets playing in at least 98% of his past 3 seasons with the Jets. Mosley comes into 2024 as the 4 highest PFF-graded player for the Jets and the 4 highest linebacker in all of football.

The next linebacker is coming off a breakout season and a season where he won team MVP in 2023, he was selected the 1st team All-Pro this past year and that is Quincy Williams. The 27-year-old was recently ranked the 32nd best player in the NFL in the NFL’s annual Top 100 player rankings after 139 tackles and 15 tackles for a loss season in 2023. He was not only dominant in the run game with his TFL and tackles but also in the passing game, 2023 he was the 3rd most targets among linebackers and yet allowed just the 17th-most yards, he also had the second-most passes defended at the linebacker position with 10. Now entering 2024 Williams will look to build on his All-Pro selection and work for his first Pro Bowl selection.

The third linebacker is Jamien Sherwood who is entering his 4th year in the NFL and his 4th year with the Jets. In 2023 Sherwood improved on his 2022 campaign where he had 16 tackles, 1 TFL, and 67% of snaps played, and enhanced it to 46 tackles, 3 TFLs, 1 forced fumble, 1 pass defended, and 87% of snaps played. In 2024 Jamein Sherwood can look to make a jump similar to Quincy Williams’ in 2023. 

The Jets have a couple of young players for the depth at the linebacker position. The list of young players includes Zaire Barnes and Chazz Surratt. Zaire Barnes is coming off his rookie year after he was drafted with the 184th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and Chazz Surratt is entering his 4th year in the NFL and played in 71% of special teams plays last year.

In 2024 the New York Jets linebacker group will continue to prove why they are the best core in the NFL.
