Looking at the Jets roster you can argue that the punter and kicking situation for the Jets is the best out of any position, the 2 positions with Greg Zuerlein and Thomas Morstead have a long history of winning and leadership.
The punter Thomas Morstead is now entering his 16th season in the NFL at age 38 making him the 2nd oldest player on the team behind Aaron Rodgers and 7th oldest in the NFL. Recently, the Jets re-signed Morstead to a 2-year $5.1 million deal this offseason. He is a 1x pro bowler, 1x 2nd team all-pro, and 1x Super Bowl Champion. This past year in week 8 against the Giants, Morstead earned special teams player of the week in that game he punted 11 times, punting a total of 529 yards and pinning the Giants inside the 5-yard line 3 times. Last year Morstead also had 36.4% of his punts land inside the 20 and led the league in punts with 99 and punt yards with 4,831.
At the kicker position, the Jets have Veteran Greg Zuerlein who is entering his 13th year in the NFL and 3rd year with Gang Green. In the past with the Rams, Zuerlein was a pro-bowler and All-Pro select in 2017. In 2023, Zuerlein made 92.1% of his field-goal attempts, converted on 5 of 6 field goals from 50-plus yards, tied for first in the league with 4 game-tying/game-winning field goals, and was fourth in touchback percentage. That year he also set a franchise record with 26 consecutive field goals made. Like Morstead, Greg Zuerlein also earned special teams player of the week but against the Broncos in week 5, that game he went 5 for 5 in field goals and 2 for 2 in extra points, combining for a total of 17 points which is the 5th most in a game by a Jets kicker.Â
Now with 2 great veteran players and leaders the Jet's special teams is bound to excel just like they did in 2023
