Year after year we hear the same story of why the Jets are struggling, the quarterback position. In 2023 there were hopes that the problem would be put to rest with the trade of Aaron Rodgers but after 4 plays and an achilles tear for Rodgers that problem would start up again for 2023. Now with a revamped QB room there is hope on the horizon for the 2024 season.
Starting off with the starting QB position, Aaron Rodgers. There are no other words you can say about Aaron Rodgers other than spectacular, the 4x MVP, Super Bowl champion, 4x first team all-pro and 10x pro-bowler brings a unique play style that perfectly fits the Jets “win now” position for 2024. However there are some concerns about his health especially coming off an achilles tear over 10 months ago but with no limits heading into training camp and a rebuilt offensive line there is hope he can stay healthy for 2024.
The backup QB position is currently held by veteran journeyman QB Tyrod Taylor. This offseason the Jets signed Taylor to a 2 year $18 million deal to be the backup for Rodgers. Taylor is coming off a 2 year stint with the Giants, in 2023 Tyrod filled in for an injured Daniel Jones and started 5 games throwing for 1,341 yards, 5 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Jets fans hope they never see Tyrod start or play at all this season in hopes of Rodgers staying healthy but if anything were to happen this would be a comfortable situation to fall back on unlike 2023 with Zach Wilson.
The third string QB is rookie Jordan Travis from FSU who the Jets took with pick 171 in the NFL Draft. Jordan Travis is coming off a phenomenal college career, unfortunately during his final year in college and leading the Seminoles to an undefeated record he dislocated and fractured his ankle putting him out for months. As of now there is still hope he can be fully healthy come late July according to Coach Saleh. This pick is viewed as a developmental pick so Jordan Travis can learn from 2 amazing veteran QBs with the hopes of getting the starting position when the Rodgers era is over.
Despite lots of negative history revolving around the Jets QBs there is some promise that this group can bring security to the offense and push it to being one of the top offenses in the league with Rodgers controlling the ship.
