3 Mets Prospects to Look Out For
July 3, 2024
After the trade deadline in 2023 the Mets traded for multiple young prospects they look forward to within the next decade. With both trades and draft picks there are 3 prospects that you can definitely expect to tear it up when their time comes to play in Queens.
The Mets have for sure found their future 2nd baseman in Luisangel Acuña when the McNeil era is over. The 22 year old infielder was acquired last trade deadline from the Texas Rangers when the Mets sent over Max Scherzer and cash considerations. In 2023 when Luisangel arrived he was optioned to AA Binghamton where he batted .243 with 2 homeruns and 12 RBI’s in 37 games, at the start of the 2024 season he was placed in AAA Syracuse where he has been batting .270, .377 slugging %, with 5 homers and 31 RBI’s. The 5th ranked prospect for the Mets has some serious potential in 2025 when he is expected to be brought up to the Majors.
A second prospect who can be the future of Queens is Jett Williams who was selected in the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft by the Mets. Jett has been powering through the Mets system going from St. Lucie, to Brooklyn to now Binghamton in just a year and a half. In his minor league career has racked in a total of 63 RBI’s on 14 home runs and a .256 batting average in 481 at bats. The 20 year old #2 prospect for the Mets can play both shortstop and outfield but based on the current state of the New York Mets it looks like his future will be in the outfield with Lindor locking down the shortstop position.
The final prospect that you can see tear it up for the Orange and Blue in the future is my favorite prospect, right-handed pitcher Brandon Sproat. Selected in the second round of the 2023 draft, the 23 year old has been shredding it in both Brooklyn and Binghamton this year. In high A Brooklyn Sproat pitched a 1.07 ERA, 11.07 K/9, allowed just 12 hits in 25.1 innings pitched. When Sproat made his AA appearance in Rumbletown on May 15th he continued his success, he has a 3-0 record, 1.97 ERA, 9.3 K/9, allowed just 27 hits in 41.2 innings pitched. In 2024 Sproat has been so special he was recently selected to represent the Mets in 2024 Future Games in Texas. It should be criminal Sproat is the 6th ranked player in the Mets farm system because he is an MLB talent that has future All-Star written all over him.
There are high expectations for all the prospects on this list and they all have 1 thing in common, they can hit those expectations and beyond.
