The Mets gained some ground in the NL Wild Card race after sweeping the historically bad Chicago White Sox in the 3-game series this past weekend.

Jonathan Cannon's last 5 innings after a JD Martinez 2-run homerun, Jesse Winker RBI double and Harrison Bader grounding into a fielder choice left his stat line at 5 innings pitched, 5 hits, 4 runs, 4 walks, and 3 K’s. For Tylor Megill, he pitched 5.1 innings, allowed 1 run from an Andrew Benintendi double, 5 hits, 1 walk, and 6 strikeouts. The Mets bullpen also held their own, pitching 3.2 innings, allowing 0 hits, 0 walks, and 6 strikeouts. In the 9th inning, Mark Vinetos added to the Mets lead with a sacrifice fly to make the score 5-1. Edwin Diaz got the 3-out save to give the Mets the first win of the series.
The Mets improved their record in the second game of the series after a 5-3 win. There was no action until the 6th inning when Starling Marte brought home Pete Alonso on a single. The game finished with the White Sox scoring a run in the 9th and Jose Butto getting the save to secure the 5-3 win.
In the final game of the series, the Mets had Sean Manaea on the mound and faced 2024 all-star Garrett Crochet. The game was overall very slow but the Mets got ahead of the White Sox when hit a Lindor solo home run after Crochet got the first 9 batters out of the game. Both teams would not score until Starling Marte hit a double to bring home Pablo Reyes and make the score 2-0. Mets starter Sean Manaea continued his hot streak this game as he had 7 innings pitched, and allowed 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. This loss handed the White Sox their 107th loss of the year
