Pete Alonso Set to Make 4th All-Star Appearance
July 7, 2024
For the 2024 All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso has been selected to the National League reserve to make his 4th and 3rd straight All-Star appearance.
This season Pete Alonso has been hitting a .243 batting average, 18 home runs, 48 RBI, and a .467 slugging percentage. But since June 15th Alonso has been batting .286 with 22 hits, 4 homers, 16 RBIs, and 11 runs scored in 20 games which has been his best 20-game stretch this season. Pete has also shown quite an improvement from his 2023 campaign, last year Alonso batted .217 through 154 games, and through 87 games this year he’s been batting .243, also Alonso improved on the 21 doubles he hit last year in 154 games to match that total through only 87 games this year. Pete leads the Mets in home runs, 2nd in hits, 2nd in RBI, and 2nd in walks.
This being Alonso’s 4th All-Star game he is also likely to appear in his 5th Home Run Derby. The 2x home-run derby champion won in 2019 and 2021, but in 2022 he lost in the semi-finals to Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodgriguez 31-23, Alonso came back in 2023 looking to win it but in a rematch vs Julio Rodgriguez in the quarterfinals Alonso lost 41-21. Pete Alonso is one of only 3 players to win back-to-back homerun derby champions when he won it in 2021, joining Ken Griffey Jr. and Yoenis Céspedes.
Pete Alonso will be playing as a reserve and backing up Phillies 1st baseman Bryce Harper. He is also looking to improve on his 1-for-4 All-Star game stats.
