The history of New York baseball runs deep, with the Yankees historically dominating the Mets in all aspects. But the signing of Juan Soto proves that the Yankees have fallen from grace and are now the little brothers of New York.
In the past, the Yankees have shown a winning culture and when facing the Mets is just another regular season game.
But since the start of the decade, the Mets have dominated the cross-town rivals, only losing 9 of the 24 matchups since 2020.
History shows that the Yankees have taken some of Mets fans' beloved players from them like, Doc Gooden, Ron Swoboda, Darryl Strawberry, Carlos Beltran, and Neil Allen and now it is time for the Mets to take a beloved player away from the Yankees, Juan Soto.
A question that lies is, when was the last time the Mets took an MVP-caliber player away from the Yankees? The answer: never, a player like Juan Soto leaving the supposed “Top team in baseball” and “Big Brother of NY” for the “Little Brother of NY” is embarrassing for The Bronx team.
Swaying a star player away from the Yankees is not something that happens in the MLB too often and swaying a Yankees star player to the Mets is laughable for the Yankees front office, ownership, and fans.
Thinking back to a year ago, the Mets took the Yankees bench coach, Carlos Mendoza, to be the next manager in Queens and in just 1 year it seems like Mendoza is a better manager than Boone.
Comparing the 2 sides in just 2024, more people rallied around the Mets than the Yankees, and the mood and vibe of the Mets were better on all surfaces. During the Mets postseason run other fans were cheering on the Mets and forgot about the Yankees because the Mets had a good story and the Yankees were just plain and boring. The Yankees weren’t fun to watch, the Mets were a fun team to watch.
Even bigger than just the players on the field, the Mets have a more functional front office and coaching staff that is believed in, with Carlos Mendoza and David Stearns being at the forefront of that belief.
The current dysfunction of the Yankees is evident in everything that has happened in 2024. They have a manager that they barely trust and an owner who doesn’t want to pay one of the team's best players. And despite the Yankees making the World Series, they went out weakly, and the Mets, on the other hand, battled adversity all year and fought back in the playoffs, which the Yankees could not do.
So the reality is in 2025 and beyond the Mets are now ‘the’ team in New York and it is time to paint New York Orange and Blue.
